Grok Chatbot, developed by xAI, a company founded
by Elon Musk, has been open-sourced. This decision follows a recent promise
made by Musk and comes amidst a lawsuit against OpenAI, another leading AI
firm, which Musk accused of straying from its core principles of transparency
and technology sharing for societal betterment.
Grok-1, the
initial model, is a 314 billion parameter Mixture-of-Experts model developed
entirely from scratch. Unlike other models, Grok-1's pre-training concluded in
October 2023 without fine-tuning for specific applications like dialogue.
In a bid to
foster transparency and collaboration in AI, xAI has released Grok-1's base
model weights and network architecture to the public via GitHub. By doing so,
xAI hopes to encourage researchers, developers, and organizations to explore
and build upon the capabilities of this extensive language model.
Elon Musk's legal actions
against OpenAI underscore his apprehensions regarding the absence of
transparency in the development of artificial intelligence. Despite OpenAI's
