Programme: Transforming Sanitation Practices
The
National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE) program is a
collaboration between the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the
Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to eliminate sanitation Plant manual

Components of the NAMASTE Programme
The
NAMASTE Program has several well-designed components to promote and develop
SSW:
Overview of
Urban SSW Local Bodies (ULB') s) Use of digital tool to identify approximately
100,000 SSW.
Health
insurance is provided to SSW under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY).
Create a
medical center for SSW and NAMASTE.
Financial
assistance up to Rs. 5 lakh for purchase of health-related tools and equipment.
Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE) for SSW.
Selecting
safety equipment for Emergency Medical Services (ERSUs).
Conducting
information, education and communication (IEC) activities to raise awareness of
the safety and dignity of SSW.
Development
Process and NAMASTE Mobile Application Training
The first
phase of the NAMASTE project revolves around creating a national SSW database
through scanning and giving everyone a unique NAMASTE ID. Initiate the
screening process, including conducting online training on screening process
and NAMASTE mobile app in 30 states/Union Territories covering all five
regions. 2,367 ULBs, including key stakeholders such as managers, technicians,
senior medical officers, supervisors and inspectors, attended the training.
NAMASTE
Profiling Training at National Level
Ten
States/Union Territories organized NAMASTE Profiling Training at State Level to
address educational issues and attended by 805 people in the city. After the
online training, ULB started collecting sanitation data for each city through
online form with information about SSW, machines and estimated camping areas. A
Camp Preparation VC meeting was later held to correct gaps in information and
improve the province's preparations for the camp profile.
Training of
trainers on the use of NAMASTE mobile application
To ensure
better understanding and hassle-free use, training-trainer training was
conducted in four states, including physical and online usage. These efforts
aim to ensure that staff are knowledgeable about the NAMASTE Action App and
that detailed information is provided in local languages to facilitate
effective use.
