Phase II of the ‘Amazon Future Engineer Programme’

The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), operating under the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, has launched Phase II of the ‘Amazon Future Engineer Programme.’ This innovative initiative is set to benefit students in 54 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) situated across Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Telangana.

A Tech-Powered Curriculum

In this second phase, the Amazon Future Engineer Programme introduces an Advanced Block Programming and Artificial Intelligence curriculum. This forward-looking curriculum is designed to equip tribal students with essential tech skills that are becoming increasingly vital in today’s digital world.

Inauguration and Exhibition

The official inauguration of Phase II was marked by a three-day, in-person teacher training workshop. The event also featured the EMRS Coders Expo, which showcased the Top 20 Coding Projects from EMRSs during the previous academic year. The inauguration ceremony was held in New Delhi and presided over by Anil Kumar Jha, Secretary (Tribal Affairs).

Enhanced Coding and AI Learning

Building on the success of the previous year, the revised module introduces a tailored coding and artificial intelligence (AI) curriculum aligned with CBSE skill education. This complements the existing courses in coding, logical sequencing, learning loops, and block programming. The 20-hour module is thoughtfully designed to suit the current exposure of tribal students to computer science and coding.

Progressive Learning Stages

The curriculum unfolds progressively, with Class six students learning the fundamentals of computer science. Seventh graders are introduced to advanced concepts of visual programming, while eighth graders gain introductory exposure to AI. In grade nine, students delve into the fundamentals of AI. For grade 10, an AI module aligned with the CBSE skills curriculum will be introduced in the academic year 2024-25.

 Bridging Educational Barriers

India has substantial tribal population, which often faces language and cultural barriers to accessing modern education. Capacity building for teachers in local languages, especially within tribal communities, will empower them to deliver the curriculum more effectively and prepare tribal students for success in the technologically advanced world.
