India-UN Capacity Building Initiative

India and the United Nations have joined forces to initiate a collaborative capacity-building effort aimed at operationalizing development-focused objectives from India’s G20 Presidency. This initiative seeks to share India’s best practices with partner countries in the Global South. Announced during the event ‘India-UN for the Global South-Delivering for Development,’ the initiative reinforces India’s commitment to South-South cooperation and the pursuit of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Operationalizing G20 Deliverables

The “India-UN Capacity Building Initiative” is designed to put into action development-oriented outcomes of India’s G20 Presidency, including the G20 Action Plan for Accelerating Progress on the SDGs and advancements in technology and digital public infrastructure.

This initiative will significantly contribute to global efforts aimed at achieving the

SDGs by strengthening South-South Cooperation.

It reflects India’s dedication to enhancing its development partnership with nations in the Global South.

Inclusive G20 Presidency

The initiative also builds upon India’s successful G20 Presidency, which emphasized the inclusion of the Global South’s perspective in the G20 agenda.

Notably, the African Union became part of the G20 during India’s Presidency.

Sharing India’s Development Expertise

The initiative’s core objective is to share India’s development experiences, best practices, and expertise with partner countries in the Global South through capacity-

building and training programs.

It leverages India’s Technical and Economic Cooperation platform to disseminate its development experiences and practices worldwide.

Key Collaborators

The UN India team and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will partner to harness India’s Technical and Economic Cooperation platform for sharing India’s development experiences globally.

A Joint Declaration of Intent was exchanged between UN Resident Coordinator in India Shombi Sharp and India representative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Hari Menon during the event.

Building on Bilateral Cooperation

The ‘India-UN Capacity Building Initiative’ complements India’s existing bilateral cooperation in development and capacity building with partner countries.

It aligns with the India-UN partnership through the India-UN Development Partnership Fund, which has supported 75 development projects in 61 countries over the past six years.
