“Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan”

The Ministry of Social Justice And Empowerment’s flagship program, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), aims to raise the  awareness about the substance abuse among youngsters in India, with a particular focusing on the higher education institutes, university campuses, schools, & community engagement. Recently, the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment & Brahma Kumaris inked a Memorandum of Understanding to make (NMBA) more effective & widespread.

Substance abuse means  - excessive use of Drugs & Alcohol.

About Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan:-

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment,was started this program in 2020  with a target of 272 of the most vulnerable districts. It has now reached over 9.50 crore people also  including 3.10 crore youth individuals, in 372 districts across the country, & over 3 lakh educational institutions. Various activities has conduced by the NMBA by emphasizing the dangers of drug addiction. This program was  also prioritizes the community involvement to promote the sense of responsibility in tackling substance abuse & promote the healthy and productive society.

Stakeholders of NMBA:-

Stakeholders of NMBA are Youth, Women, educational institutions, &  master volunteers. This program will select around fifty  master volunteers from each district. They will also play a vital role in spreading awareness about the NMBA. They will also conduct counselling & will identify the  people who need the advanced counselling & will take them to the nearby addiction facility.

The Sad Truth:-

Despite of putting in so much effort to stop alcohol and its ill effect,  government can’t stop the sales of alcohol completely. This is because the revenue from alcohol is huge. In 2022-23  the excise revenue from alcohol alone was Rs 9,500 crores. Overall revenue from alcohol sales was around Rs 2 lakh crores.  Apart from drugs, the NMBA also focuses on alcohol addictions.
