75 Tribal Districts – Picked for TB Intervention project:

Over the past 6 months, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Central TB Division had been running to find the instances of TB among the Tribal Population and now selected 75 Districts.

Tuberculosis Intervention Project:

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Central TB Division jointly running to detect the instances of TB among tribal population for past 6 months and now selected to 75 districts to make them free from tuberculosis.

To detect TB cases, across 174 tribal districts the campaign was conducted this January. The campaign was called Aashwasan Campaign under which door to door screening was done in over 68,000 villages. The data showed that over 3,82,811 people were identified for presumptive TB after screening of over 1.03 crore people.

Engagement and Execution of the project:

The Health and Tribal Affairs had decided on a strategy at the conclave held on August 24, 2022, to keep India TB- free by 2025. To increase the awareness of the symptoms and treatment process, they had decided to seek help from the community influencer like tribal leaders, tribal healers, Panchayat Raj Institution members, Self help groups and youth.

The districts that were selected during the campaign includes a higher proportion of tribal populations that are reported relatively higher TB cases during case detection campaign.

The government has planned to deploy two officials at district level and three officials in each state of TB cells to implement the project. The campaign was undertaken by Tribal affairs and Health Ministries and supported by USAID (United States Agency for International Development) a technical partner and Piramal Swasthya as implementing partner. Tribal Ministry Joint Secretary Naval Jit Kapoor stated that Tribal people are more vulnerable to TB and other respiratory diseases compared with other population.
