Mission Sagar – II extends help to Sudan


Indian Naval Ship Airavat as a part of the ‘Mission Sagar-II’ entered the Sudan port on 02 November 2020 to provide help in handing over food items and aids to overcome and fight natural disaster. Due to this tough time of COVID-19 many countries are battling to fight over the pandemic. The Indian government are taking several measures to assist its Friendly Foreign Countries. As a part of this, Indian Naval Ship Airavat  wanted to provide food to the people of Sudan. 100 tonnes of food items were carried in a consignment by INS Airavat.   

Mission Sagar  has extended an helping hand to Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar and Comoros by providing food and medical aids. This mission was undertaken during 2020 from the month of May to June. Following the same motive of helping the neighbouring and friendly countries of India, ‘Mission Sagar- II’ has now reached out to Sudan by providing food aid. Indian Naval Ship Airavat  is planning to assist with the same to South Sudan, Djibouti and Eritrea in the future.

The word ‘SAGAR’ stands for its vision defined by our Prime Minister as Security and Growth for All in the Region. This mission highlights the importance of India’s relationship with its neighbours as it strengthens the bond between various countries. The Ministries of Defence, External Affairs along with many other agencies of the Government of India are working in close contact with the Indian Naval Ship for executing the mission successfully.
