2 October is the birth day of Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the
Indian independence movement, and this day is celebrated as a International Day
of Non-Violence
The United Nations General Assembly on 15th
June 2007 adopted a resolution and declared 2 October will be celebrated as the
International Day of Non-Violence.
The resolution reaffirms "the universal relevance of
the principle of non-violence" and the wish "to secure a culture of peace, tolerance,
understanding and non-violence".
