"WHO" declared Africa a wild polio-free country on august 25, 2020

Key points:

The international organization for world health (WHO) has been declared the African as a virus-free country and in the last four years, there were no cases recorded for wild poliovirus. Smallpox was already been eradicated in the country and now poliovirus joined.

The medical term of polio is Poliomyelitis which is an acutely infectious and contagious virus attacking the spinal cord in a human and causes irreversible paralysis in children.

The virus was attacked largely worldwide until the vaccine was found in the 1950s. meanwhile, polio remained out of the reach for many economically down countries in Asia and Africa.

The WHO, UNICEF, and Rotary together jointly launched the global campaign to eradicate the disease. There were 350,000 cases globally . in 1996, there were more than 70,000 cases in Africa alone.
